It depends on the laws and regulations in your province, state or country. Hypnotherapy and Hypnotism they both use the same technique, Hypnosis. They both take you into the Hypnotic State, some times called Hypnotic Trance. 

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in therapy, and in many states, provinces and countries only Health Care Professional can do Hypnotherapy. The National Guild of Hypnotists, Inc. (NGH) created a Certification called Certified Consulting Hypnotist. The idea is to differentiate, so if you are not a Health Care Professional practicing Hypnosis you call yourself “A Consulting Hypnotist”, a person who practices Consulting Hypnotism. 

A Consulting Hypnotist, doing Consulting Hypnotism, uses the same technique Hypnosis, but he or she does not do therapy. Anything that is considered a medical diagnosis is beyond the Consulting Hypnotist's scope of practice, unless accompanied by a doctor's referral, and you could work as a team with a Health Care Professional. 

A Consulting Hypnotist have clients. A Hypnotherapist have patients. If you get your NGH Hypnotism Certification with us when you get your certification you become a NGH Certified Consulting Hypnotist, if you are Health Care Professional you are allow to do therapy, if not you do Consulting Hypnotism. 

So what kind of problems you can help with when you become a National Guild of Hypnotists Certified Consulting Hypnotist.
